Hiking / Riding / Biking
There are 486 miles of trails open to hiking in the Colville National Forest. Many of these trails rise from low elevation trailheads to the magnificent ridges and peaks along the Kettle and Selkirk mountain ranges. The trails transect crystal-clear streams and magnificent forests of ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine, sub-alpine fir and engelmann spruce. Most hiking trails are also open to horseback riding. Some are open to mountain bikes. Motorized vehicle use is prohibited along many of these hiking trails so that recreationists can find solitude in the forest for a peaceful experience ... away from the din of civilization.

Motor Sport
Northport Raceway is a 3/8 mile clay oval located 1 1/2 miles north of Northport WA. or 9 miles south of the Patterson crossing in Canada. The track, founded in 1953 is in it 56th year of operation. This track is one of the two remaining dirt tracks in Eastern Washington. The view for the fans has notchanged much over the years, as they are still able to watch the racing action from their tailgates while barbecuing. This is part of the unique draw of this track. After the day is done the fans can come down to the pits and talk with their favorite driver and cheer as the trophies are handed out. There are special events throughout the year and several Open Competition races were everything goes. There is food and lodging available in Northport. The next closest town, Kettle Falls, WA. is a beautiful 35 mile drive to the south along Lake Roosevelt with some of the most spectacular views. We are home to Modified, Super Stock, Fever - 4, and Hornets. Come join us for some dirt slinging, adrenaline pumping fun. The racing season runs from the end of April to the end of October, with special events for other motorsports throughout the year.
ORV
National forests are popular places to take off-road vehicles and riding rugged terrain is a challenge. Birding
Bird watching has long been a popular hobby among worldwide nature-lovers. Armed with a pair of binoculars and a field guide for identification, bird-watchers can be found in wildlife preserves or even from the patio of your cabin. Bird watching is not only a pleasant pastime for young and old alike, but also is an educational means of better understanding various types of our feathered friends and their individual feeding, hatching and singing behavior.
Between the Little Pend Orielle National Wildlife Refuge (located about 20 miles to the southeast) a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. and the Lake Roosevelt Area, this region offers a variety of beautiful mountain and valley landscapes and ecosystems. From rolling grasslands, towering mountain peaks and alpine vistas, lush valley bottoms guiding pristine rivers and streams, to renowned wetlands and dense green forests. You can explore many of these ecosystems, each providing unique habitat for a variety of bird and wildlife species. More than 250 species of birds visit the Refuge, so bring your binoculars and see how many you can spot. Every year school children come to the Refuge for field trips to learn about the natural history of their area.

Set up your tent at a dispersed site along the crystal-clear streams in the Kettle Range or the beautiful Salmo-Priest Wilderness Area.

Star Gazing
The mountain location of our cabins, vast forested areas and the incredible "dark sky" conditions offer the perfect opportunity for stargazing much of the year. Bring your own telescope and explore the planets and stars of the night sky. The sky is full of stories waiting to be discovered. For centuries, people have seen these same points of light in the night sky. Stories borne out of the many constellations that eyes around the world have spent hours gazing up at, have been passed on from generation to generation. We can see these same images and share these same stories today. All you need is a clear night, a little patience, and some imagination.
Photography
Photographic opportunities are everywhere in this region. Its truly a photographers dream. For example, Lake Roosevelt is only one of a number of natural and man-made attractions in Northeast Washington. The region, which is bounded on the south by the Columbia Basin, is an ecological wonderland. There are more than 35 parks and wildlife areas throughout the region, including Indian Rock Paintings. The northern section of this region is rich in historical and ecological landmarks as well. National forests make up the bulk of this area and include attractions such as Kettle Falls and the Sherman Pass Byway, a 35-mile network of heritage sites, wildlife areas and spectacular vistas. The northwestern edge of the region is dotted by ghost towns and the remnants of a gold rush that had gripped the area a century earlier. Finding something for the 'shutterbug' in us all should be pretty easy to find.
Drive-In
One American memory at its most nostalgic is the drive-in movie theatre. Today the drive-in movie is not always linked to the idea of wholesome family entertainment because of the notorious scandals that have plagued a few. However, back when I was a kid everybody went to the drive-in movies all summer long. The drive-in was a great social gathering place even if it looked like everyone was isolated in their cars like little islands. Drive-ins are about more than just literally driving in. Going to the drive-in is about relaxed, liberating entertainment under the stars. Like hanging out at the county fair, watching a movie outside (or two if it's a double feature) once was the ultimate summer experience.
The good news is that the fun of the summertime drive-in doesn't have to exist purely in nostalgic memories and stories because during the summer months we have one of the last remaining Drive-in's only a few miles away.
